THROUGH OUR OBLATION WE ARE INSTRUMENTS OF THE SAVIOUR

I wish you to change the end of our litanies; instead of saying Jesus sacerdos, we must say Christe salvator. That is the aspect under which we ought to contemplate our divine Master.
Our particular vocation is such that we are associated in a special manner with the redemption of men…
Through the oblation of our whole life, may we never contribute to lessen the effects of his redemption for ourselves and for those whom we are called to evangelize.

Letter addressed to “our dear brothers, the missionaries at Aix”,
July 1816, O.W. VI n 12

As co-operators of Christ the Saviour each member of the Mazenodian family has the vocation to be open to the work of the Saviour in their own lives and to invite others to the same liberating experience.

  1. Eleanor Rabnett, Lay Oblate says:

Reading Frank’s reflection of Eugene’s words I am reminded of the headings of the first ten Constitutions of our Rule of Life which express Eugene’s charism that is shared with all of us:

Our call… to live Christ Jesus… in apostolic community. To live Christ Jesus crucified… among the most abandoned… in the Church… proclaiming the Word… with daring humility and trust… as prophets of the new world… with Mary Immaculate. (CC&RR OMI, C1 – C10)

It is in this way that we as members of the Mazenodian Oblate Family are open to the ‘work of the Savior in our own lives and invite others to the same liberating experience.’

How do I live and work each day, never forgetting that God is still working on me, that I am never above my brothers and sisters and it is only with them that I might succeed in my endeavors… And then finally that I am called to proclaim and share with all others especially those who are excluded, forgotten, ignored and abandoned by others and yes even by some of the structures of the Church.

Today I will allow myself to be energized, enlivened and renewed by this way of being and from that guided in a way of doing…
