TUESDAY V LENT: we will know also the power of his resurrection

“When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I AM…” (John 8:28)

Through the eyes of our crucified Saviour we see the world which he redeemed with his blood, desiring that those in whom he continues to suffer will know also the power of his resurrection (cf. Phil 3: 10).

REFLECTION

For you placed the salvation of the human race on the wood of the Cross, so that, where death arose,
life might again spring forth and the evil one, who conquered on a tree, might likewise on a tree be conquered, through Christ our Lord.

(Preface for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross)

One Response to TUESDAY V LENT: we will know also the power of his resurrection

  1. Eleanor Rabnett, Lay Oblate says:

Today’s reflection does not carry with it the same heaviness that embraces and accompanies us on Good Friday.

Eugene’s words of “through the eyes of our crucified Saviour we see the world…” always reminds me of that magnificent painting by Dali with Jesus on the cross, looking down upon “those in whom he continues to suffer” and who will also come to know and walk in the light of his resurrection.

Last week at RCIA we talked about hell and purgatory, about Dante’s vision of Lucifer/Satan frozen in the depths and midst of hell, and in the light of what we recite in the Apostles Creed of Jesus dying and descending into hell. Jesus did not just hover over hell pulling out a few to carry with him to heaven; but rather he descended into the very depths of hell and holding out his arms, arms that had been stretched wide on the cross, embraced every soul there taking them with him as he ascended into the light of heaven. A reminder of the good Shepherd searching out every lost sheep.
