THE MORE I STUDY THE HEART OF JESUS CHRIST
Friday of the Third Week of Advent
John was a burning and shining lamp, and for a while you were content to rejoice in his light.
But I have testimony greater than John’s. The works that the Father gave me to accomplish, these works that I perform testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me.”
Jn 5:35-36
The more I study the heart of Jesus Christ, the more I meditate on the actions of his precious life, … the more I thank the Lord for giving me this light, and a soul capable of understanding and appreciating these things.

Sitting with Eugene this morning I reflect on the immensity of the gift we have been taking part in this Advent season as we wait, hope and prepare for the coming birth of Jesus. What this looks like within our hearts while at the same time walking with John the Baptist and Jesus in preparation for John’s time in jail and eventual death, and Jesus becoming more and more aware of the Scribes and the Pharisees plotting his eventual crucifixion. All preparation for Jesus’s resurrection to new life. In the small confines of our space and time it is a mystery how this happens every year and how it gives birth to something new and deeper within us.
We have walked with Eugene and seen his living out of these scriptures in the various seasons of his life., This morning’s entry took place a few months before he was installed as Bishop of Marseille. Such a wondrous gift to be able to join and walk with him in this way.
This coming weekend I will know once again the joy of sharing my reflections on the scriptures for the 4th Sunday of Advent. In preparing for this I have found myself marveling with the Spirit of God who led our Church leaders to put together the scriptures in such a way that they invite us, as have these daily reflections with St. Eugene – that they invite us to enter into a living flow that might be described to appear like the flow found within the infinity symbol as we to go deeper and deeper within the heart of Jesus.
Our response like Eugene’s is to be filled with gratitude at the light we are invited to stand in.
