These seven Lay persons who will be presenting a report on behalf of the Lay Oblate Associates at the General Chapter are not a measurement of perfection of the Lay Oblate Associates and Association, but rather they are a lived experience of allowing themselves to be used as instruments, as voices chosen by the Holy Spirit to speak, to share our experiences, dreams and aspirations and our realities as we try to give voice and share in Eugene de Mazenod’s charism, lived out as stated in Rule 37a according to our/their state of life and to live it in ways that vary according to milieu and cultures.”
I am reminded of the apostles, the disciples that Jesus first sent out, and how over time it was not just exclusive to religious people, remembering how Eugene’s friend Babeau was sent and shared her experience of conversion and God’s tender mercy. A prelude to our current times and who we are sending to represent us, to give voice to our experiences.
They in a sense carry us with them in this ultimate and living experience of the Spirit; of listening, discerning and sharing.
