LET US JOIN IN PRAYER AS A SUPERIOR GENERAL FOR THE NEXT SIX YEARS IS BEING ELECTED TODAY

The Superior General is the Congregation’s living bond of unity. The example of his life, his apostolic zeal and the affection he holds for all Oblates stir the faith and charity of communities to ever greater efforts in response to the Church’s needs.
As the successor of St. Eugene de Mazenod, the Superior General will continually keep alive the missionary zeal at the heart of our charism, helping to break new ground at the service of evangelization.

  1. Eleanor Rabnett, Oblate Associate says:

It seems funny to be reflecting on this today but I made the decision to look at what this means to me today – it is different now than it was six years ago. In my studies and research, in my reading and talking with Oblates I have come to discover that each of the more recent Superior Generals has had a distinct grace to offer to the community. I watched the election of Fr. Louis Lougen as Superior General on a video the last time, watched his reactions as the counting began and as it continued. At first being very happy but as the names were read out, one after another, his smile lessened and then dropped as the weight of what was happening began to register with him. He knew what God was asking of him.

I look at how the outcome might affect me as an Oblate Associate, a member of the Mazenodian Family. I like and have become comfortable with Fr. Lougen. I struggle with change. Sometimes letting go of the past is not so easy. But I trust – I really trust where God is leading us. Isn’t it interesting to see what happens when we look through the eyes of our crucified Saviour. Looking through the eyes of most magnificent and immense love. Anything becomes possible. The cross ever with us, ever a part of us. And we only know that joy and the grace of it when we embrace it fully.

And so I pray for all those who are electing the Superior General today, and I pray for the names being brought forward. And once named I will give thanks to God for the leadership and for the gifts that the Superior General will bring forward.

And now we give thanks and praise God. I am happy that Louis Lougen has been re-elected. I will pray for him.

  3. John Venezia says:

As a representative of the Oblate Associates of Mary Immaculate, it was an honor to meet Superior General Louis Lougen at the General House in Rome two years ago. Many blessings on his re-election.
