The present moment can be a little intimidating and humbling.
The kingdom of heaven is theirs: it is ours, right now in this present moment. God with us. I dare think of how God has shown me a small part of Heaven’s Kingdom in Mirabai Starr’s “Julian of Norwich – The Showings”.
In chapter 36 she speaks about “Something to Do with Me as God speaks to us” and then about “Miracles”. Julian wrote of God’s tenderly touches adding: “Let me be the only object of your attention, my beloved child. Focus on me alone, for I am enough for you. Rejoice in your savior and your salvation.” And then she writes about “Miracles”.
I find a great similarity between Julian of Norwich and St. Eugene de Mazenod. They both show me how to live in the now, the present moment with my whole being.
As a daughter of Eugene de Mazenod I have been given a share in Eugene’s charism and see him and so many others showing us how to live. I have suffered and sacrificed: both preludes to miracles taking place. “That’s when great miracles begin to happen.” Miracles do not necessarily make us larger than life but they may “humble us and deepen our awe of God”.
