EASTER: “WE ANNOUNCE THE LIBERATING PRESENCE OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE NEW WORLD BORN IN HIS RESURRECTION” Constitution 9

Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples,
‘He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ (Matthew 28: 7)

After journeying with him through the sad event of his Passion, after weeping over the torments that our sins made him endure, how consoling it is to see him rise triumphant over death and hell, and what gratitude must fill our hearts at the thought that this good Master has really willed to make us sharers in his resurrection, destroying the sin that is in us and giving us a new life.

Eugene de Mazenod  to his mother, 4 April 1809, EO XIV n 50

As members of his Oblate Family we find echoes of this sentiment on Constitution 9 of our Rule of Life:

We are members of the prophetic Church. While recognizing our own need for conversion, we bear witness to God’s holiness and justice. We announce the liberating presence of Jesus Christ and the new world born in his resurrection.

  1. Eleanor Rabnett, Lay Oblate Associate says:

Two world-wide announcements are being made this morning as we celebrate the liberating presence of Jesus our crucified and risen Saviour along with the death into new life for Pope Francis. Surprisingly I find myself pushing back fear and what-ifs by the death of Pope Francis earlier this morning: much as I was on Good Friday as I approached the Cross in veneration.

There was and is an intense sense of gratitude within me. And now as I open my copy of the Oblate Rule of Life, there is in Constitution 9 another truth to be proclaimed aloud as I recognise and bear within myself the truth of “what is”. No “woe is me” but rather a sense of calm and surrender as I join the women at the foot of the cross.

Today we give thanks for Francis, a true Servant of God, for our crucified and risen Saviour who has given us this world, that from many appearances seems to be falling apart and dying and last but not least – we give thanks to St. Eugene de Mazenod who has and continues share his charism through the members of the Oblate Charismatic Family.

Rather than finding myself overwhelmed, there is within me a remarkable and unexpected sense of calm. For this I give thanks to God
