OUR DIVINE SAVIOUR WAS ALL THE MORE HONOURED IN THE SACRAMENT OF HIS LOVE
The Bishop of Dijon had written to me asking for some information about the association of the Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament which I approvedon June 30, 1848. I answered him saying that I had in fact authorised this association of the Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament because I could seenothing that was not edifying in the idea and that the promoters of this devotion were all very pious persons who rightly attached great value to thesuccess of their work.
I also said that at first I feared that this new association would infringe upon the older one which has been active for a long time in my diocese andwhich is the work of the institute of our Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament whose mother house is in Marseilles; but that in fact the one did not interfere with the other and that our divine Saviour was all the more honoured in the sacrament of his love.
Eugene de Mazenod’s Diary, 4 November 1849, EO XXII.
REFLECTION
To respond to the spiritual and material needs of his diocese, Bishop Eugene founded many associations of laity dedicated to specific aspects of his ministry. With his solid devotion to the Eucharist, one can understand why spreading this devotion was so close to his heart.
“The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time that you will spend on earth. Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make your soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in heaven, and will help bring about an everlasting peace on earth.” (Mother Teresa of Calcutta)

We live in difficult times.
Just as did St. Eugene de Mazenod who recognized the light of God in both groups. This morning we recognizing that ministry and prayer do not belong to any one group or person. He was able to enlarge the size of his tent and focus to see how many things and ways were possible for God, for those who were looking for ways to enter into the presence of God.
Arising in the darkness this morning and looking out over the city before me I found myself noticing a red coloured light. Once darkness began to fade into the rising light of day I realized that I could not see that red light. I pulled out my binoculars and found a fuzzy line of red, and then instead of wishing that I could see better, I began to adjust the focus so as to see the light clearly. I silently thanked the Spirit for reminding me to adjust my focus in such a way as to see more clearly where the light came from.
The Synod on Synodality is finished and it has offered all of us in the Church to refine our focus of what is now, in the present moment. There comes a time for us to stop looking back to see as we did before because God is inviting us to look at what is now in the present moment. We continue to be invited to enlarge the space of our tents (ref. Isaiah 54.2), how we can enlarge the space of hearts so as to be able to refocus on what is possible now as we enter into the presence of God.
We do live in difficult times, but we are all invited to accept the grace so as to focus on God, who is present to us at all times.
