HOLY SATURDAY: we feel close to her who is the Mother of Mercy

In her, we recognize the model of the Church’s faith and of our own.

We shall always look on her as our mother.
In the joys and sorrows of our missionary life, we feel close to her who is the Mother of Mercy.

One Response to HOLY SATURDAY: we feel close to her who is the Mother of Mercy

  1. Eleanor Rabnett, Lay Oblate says:

During the night I kept waking and hearing the angels’ song: “He is Risen. He is not here, he is risen, he is risen…” and then I would roll over, allowing sleep to claim me once again. It was comforting somehow not to be alone…

I confess that yesterday I did not think of Mary who had stood at the foot of the cross as Jesus was dying, how she held the lifeless body of herson asthey prepared to anoint and prepare him for burial.

“In her, we actively recognize the model of the Church’s faith and of our own…” I find myself just sitting here quietly without words ponder her who is the Mother of Mercy. Just sitting with and accompanying her in real time, reflecting for a moment on the day that I first met her. Even though I heard the angels singing of Jesus’s resurrection throughout the night, I now commit myself to walking with her throughout this day, in all that I will be and do.

…the image of the Pieta captures me and I hold my breath as Mary invites us to look more closely, to sit with her as she holds him. Every atom of my being stops once again for yesterday touched me in a way that I have never experienced before, but which she is intensely aware of…

Tonight as the light breaks through the darkness we will sing with the angels…, and we will celebrate as we renew our journey. It is with each step we will experience ‘the joys and sorrows of our missionary life’ [with] ‘her who is the Mother of Mercy’.
