MARY AS MODEL AND MISSIONARY GUIDE

Reflecting on the zealous achievements of his missionary family, Eugene exclaimed:

What is remarkable is that these marvels are accomplished by our men who attribute to Mary Immaculate all these great things

Letter to Fr Hippolyte Courtès in Aix en Provence, 11 January 1847, EO X n 920

REFLECTION

“Mary Immaculate… received Christ in order to share him with the world, whose hope he is. In her, we recognize the model of the Church’s faith and of our own” (OMI Constitution 10)

Mary, teacher of faith, who by your obedience to the Word of God cooperated in a remarkable way with the work of redemption, help us to listen to the Word and to put it into practice today.

One Response to MARY AS MODEL AND MISSIONARY GUIDE

  1. Eleanor Rabnett, Lay Oblate says:

As I sit here this morning I am reminded of Our Lady at the Wedding in Cana, and her telling the servants to “do whatever he tells you”.

And as if a light is turned on I reread the words from Constitution 10: …received Christ in order to share him with the world, whose hope he is.” Not limited by time. Mary who was fully human and yet assumed into heaven. Its not that I doubted this, but rather a case of sometimes not thinking much about it.

Every morning before I begin my prayer I stop at my window and look down upon the statue of Mary in the small Notre Dame de Lourdes shrine across the street from where I live. Some days I stop to check on her more frequently than other days and most nights I stop to say good night to her. I do this perhaps out of habit, but it is not conscious, simply a part of my breathing in and breathing out.

Mary, teach me to love as you love. I am reminded of how I met you almost 45 years ago, asking Jesus to introduce me to you. Little did I know that one day I would find myself striving “to instill genuine devotion” to you in those I meet. Help me to give myself in oblation and obedience to God in everything I do.
