CALLED TO WALK IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE APOSTLES TO SPREAD THE KNOWLEDGE AND THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST

Wednesday 30 November : St. Andrew

As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

Matthew 4:18-19

What more beautiful ministry than that of forming in virtue, especially in the religious virtues, the chosen souls called by God to walk in the footsteps of the Apostles to spread the knowledge and the love of Jesus Christ! How much a person profits for oneself in leading others to perfection! This has turned out to be your lot. Rejoice over it, my son, and count on God’s help in this valuable ministry

  1. Eleanor Rabnett, Lay Oblate says:

Fishers of men. And they left their boats and nets and followed Jesus.

Eugene forming a congregation, a family of like minded men [and women] – “we are sent to evangelize the poor and the poor are evangelized”.

“How much a person profits for oneself in leading others to perfection.” I think of the gifts that I received in journeying with others in the formation – to become Oblate Associates and as a member of the RCIA Team. To experience the beauty of each person I meet and journey with. I remember an Oblate introducing me to Eugene and my experience as he read Eugene’s invitation to Henri Tempier: “My dear friend, read this letter at the foot of your crucifix with a mind to heed only God and what is demanded in the interests of his glory and of the salvation of souls…” Not able to refuse his invitation to me even though I could not yet realise what it might look like.

Like Simon and Andrew, saying yes and choosing to walk with him…

Saying yes to sharing in the charism of St. Eugene and sharing our ongoing experience of Jesus Christ.

How many times do we forget the part that Eugene spoke of to Fr. Dorey: “This has turned out to be your lot. Rejoice over it…”

The ongoing joy of Advent, as we wait and prepare… “Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to you O Israel.”
