THE PRAYER OF FAITH WILL SAVE THE ONE WHO IS SICK

Art 46. If, after the third day of fever, the illness takes on an alarming quality, the sick congregant will ask for the sacraments of the Church. He will make this demand in a way that those around him will respond to his urgent request.

At each meeting of the Youth Congregation, Eugene taught them to deepen their knowledge and understanding of their faith as lived out in the Church. He can thus confidently write:

Art. 47. The congregants have a clear understanding about the sacraments, the intentions of Our Lord in instituting them, and on the Church’s views on how they are administered.
Far from imitating the carelessness and the childish and senseless fear that many ignorant Christians have regarding illness, their greatest desire will be to receive the sacraments at the earliest opportunity.
They understand fully that, when received on time and properly, they not only sanctify the soul and fortify it against attacks from the evil spirit, but they are also a means to give health to the body, when this health is not prejudicial to the salvation of the soul.
Saint Peter’s shadow healed the sick who were in his path. Then what can we expect from the visit of Our Lord himself?

Statuts, § 3. Devoirs des congréganistes malades

The sacraments were an encounter with the presence of Jesus the Saviour. In times of illness it was a particular encounter with the Jesus who touched the sick and suffering in practically every page of the Gospels.

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5:13-15
