It has not been that long since I discovered within me the living sense of “Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation”. Hearing it’s acronym “JPIC” did not do a lot for me only because I need to have a developed sense of the words that it stands for. Now those words are being engraved upon my heart and they will not be ignored. Born out of deep love which have been lavished upon us by God we respond.
During our recent Community Days in this part of Ontario, Canada Fr. Andrzej Stendzina, OMI, Provincial of OMI Lacombe Canada said that “one size fits all” is not the case or truth of our lived reality. God has created us as unique creatures, each with our own gifts and how we share them. We were invited to think of new ways, new ministries born out of love. One person in the room asked: “so what do we DO?” And I said that the doing flows from the being…
“There is a longing in our hearts, O Lord, for you to reveal yourself to us.
There is a longing in our hearts for love we only find in your, our God.
For justice, for freedom, for mercy hear our prayer…” (Hymn – Anne Quigley 1992)
Once we recognize this within ourselves we begin a new adventure, whether it be a prominent gift from within us or in smaller ways of being, we find ourselves “Responding to the call of the Spirit, we identify ourselves with the poor, sharing their life and commitment to justice; others are present where decisions affecting the future of the poor are being made.” (Ref. Rule 9a)
