“A father’s communication with his many children… that is one of the most agreeable occupations of my life” 1857
This morning my reflection seems to be focused on true vs false humility.
“Banish all sparks of self-importance that could elevate me greater than you.” There is a great temptation in today’s society to proclaim ourselves as being the best, the smartest, even the holiest and often this is done by lessening others in the eyes of the world. It is done through self-righteous anger and attacking any other who has a different outlook or way of being. This is not trust in God, but rather it is trust only in one’s self.
Am I serving others to raise them up or to make myself look holy?
“Encouraged however by a desire to serve you, we placed all our trust in the Lord.”
Give me the grace to overcome any and all desire to see myself as better than others. Let it be you that they meet and recognize. Allow me to become a channel of your peace… (St. Francis)
