This applies to all who feel called to live by the Mazenodian spirit as the lay Oblates who participated in the recent General Chapter reported. Describing the Oblate Lay Associations Congress which had taken place 3 months before:
I have a dream… I often come here early in the morning and write those four words. And before submitting my reflection on Eugene speaking to us, I usually delete those words, but not today.
Eugene’s words to Fr. Santoni apply to our lives, all of us in this most beautiful Mazenodian Family. I catch my heart singing the refrain from the St. Louis Jesuits: “Be not afraid – I go before you always. Come, follow me and I will give you rest.”
And I take in the words about the Congress, tasting and savoring them, allowing them to become a part of me, and wondering how I will live them out in the coming weeks, months and years: “the Congress engendered communion and hope” and a bit further on “we experienced the Spirit present among us and it is with the Spirit that we continue to be pilgrims of hope in communion…”
During the night I awakened several times to the sound of the wind howling around my building, idly wondering if there would be anything left on my balcony daylight. During one of my waking periods I remember talking with the Beloved, reminding Him of how for years I would go each day and sit before the Blessed Sacrament and the statue of the Sacred Heart. I would ask God to take my small heart and replace it with His own heart – so that I might love as He loves. And then I fell asleep thanking him for allowing my dream to come true for that was/is what has been happening – slowly but surely in the midst of the chaos of my life. It is all a part of the journey…
My heart is singing this morning as I look at how God gives life and truth to our deepest dreams. We journey together on this pilgrimage in hope, and in communion… with the Beloved and so with each other. What could be sweeter!
