“Mary is not only the bridge joining us to God; she is more. She is the road that God travelled to reach us, and the road that we must travel in order to reach him. (Pope Francis)

“She is the road that God travelled to reach us….”
These few words from Pope Francis leap out from the screen before me and I find my eyes beginning to tear up, silently as sit before them. They are my heart’s white flag of surrender…
She is the road that God travelled – not that she walked it but that she is it. And a million images and thoughts surge through my mind, like flotsam in flood waters – each trying to outdo and outpace the others.
And as I read on, as I silently utter the prayer offered to us today, small tendrils of life seem to become woven into my heart. This small prayer becomes my consecration.
I suppose I could keep fighting whatever it is that I have been holding onto (I have fought for so long that I do not know why I fight ) but to what end?
I consciously tell myself that I am living now and do not need those old ways of being… I can joyfully and even crazily allow my heart to wave that white flag… Then take a step forward into freedom…
It is only at this moment that I remember years ago when an Oblate – he was our Provincial at the time and he invited us few Oblates Associates present to join him and the Oblates in consecrating ourselves to Our Lady, to Mary Immaculate. I was stunned, and secretly thrilled – a new first for me at least and so I joined him and his Oblate brothers in consecrating ourselves to Our Lady.
I think of that as I begin to proclaim: “O Holy Mary, my sovereign Lady, into your blessed trust and special custody, and into the heart of your mercy, I,
this day, and every day, and in the hour of my death, commend my whole being…”
