Bishop de Mazenod led the faithful to welcome Christ in an ever more generous faith in order to live fully their vocation as children of God. His entire action was animated by a conviction which he expressed in these words: &#8220;To love the Church is to love Jesus Christ and vice versa.<br \/>\nBrothers and Sisters, Eugene de Mazenod invites us to follow him to present ourselves all together to the Savior who comes, the Child of Bethlehem, the Son of God made man&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Today the Church gives thanks to God for St. Eugene de Mazenod, apostle of his time, who, clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, spent his life in service to the Gospel of God. We give thanks to God for the great transformation accomplished through the work of this Bishop. His influence is not limited to the time in which he lived, but continues to affect our time as well. Indeed, the good accomplished in virtue of the Holy Spirit does not perish, but lasts in every &#8220;hour&#8221; of history.<br \/>\nThanks be to God!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Father Paolo Archiati, our Vicar General writes:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?attachment_id=4289\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4289\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4289 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Icon-Mazfam-248x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Icon-Mazfam-248x300.png 248w, https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Icon-Mazfam-848x1024.png 848w, https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Icon-Mazfam-768x928.png 768w, https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Icon-Mazfam.png 908w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 248px) 100vw, 248px\" \/><\/a>&#8220;The connection between St. Eugene, the Oblates, and\u00a0the\u00a0liturgical\u00a0season\u00a0of Advent\u00a0does not stop there\u2026\u00a0Even Pope Francis, meeting the capitulars on 7 October\u00a02016, in the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em>sala clementina<\/em>,\u00a0took what was said years ago by his predecessor, inviting\u00a0the Oblates of today to be\u00a0\u201cmen of Advent\u201d as well.\u00a0It is an invitation that Pope Francis addressed not only to the members of the 36th General Chapter, but through them, to the whole Congregation, to each Oblate.\u00a0Having said that St. Eugene was\u00a0\u201cobedient\u00a0to the Holy Spirit in reading the signs of\u00a0the times and\u00a0assisting the work of God in the history of the\u00a0Church\u201d,\u00a0the Pope addressed to us this invitation:\u00a0<em>\u201cMay you also be \u2018men of Advent\u2019, capable of grasping the signs of the new times and guiding our brothers and sisters in the ways that God opens in the Church and in the world\u201d.<\/em>\u00a0It is a challenging invitation, especially if we consider what he said immediately after: \u201cThe Church is living, together with the whole world, an era of great transformations, in the most diverse fields.\u00a0She needs men who carry in their hearts the same love for Jesus Christ that lived in the heart of the young Eugene de\u00a0Mazenod, and the same unconditional love for her, which strives to be ever more open.\u00a0It is important to work for a Church that is for everyone, a Church ready to welcome and accompany!\u00a0The work to be done to accomplish all of this is vast;\u00a0and you too have your specific contribution to offer\u201d.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>On the first Sunday of\u00a0Advent\u00a0in 1995,\u00a0our Founder was canonized;\u00a0on the third Sunday of this same liturgical season, in 2011, the martyrs of Spain were beatified, and,\u00a0in December of last year,\u00a0again on the third Sunday of Advent, the martyrs of Laos.\u00a0We could say that Advent is truly \u201cour\u201d\u00a0favorite\u00a0liturgical\u00a0time,\u00a0because\u00a0it reminds us that, through our mission, we are called to prepare the coming of the Redeemer in the hearts of those who, even without knowing it, await it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pope Francis was talking to the Oblate religious and priests gathered with him, but everything that he says is applicable to every member of the Mazenodian Family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pope John Paul 2 concluded his homily at the canonization ceremony with these words: Through patient work on himself, he was able to discipline a difficult character and govern his diocese with enlightened wisdom and firm goodness.
