VI n. 127<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Whereas the morning instructions were catechetical, the evening instructions, referred to as \u201csermons,\u201d aimed at the heart and at conversion. A perusal of the <em>Diary of the Marignane Mission<\/em> gives an indication of some of the topics that they dealt with in the evenings: what happens after death \u00a0judgment, death of the just person as opposed to the death of the sinner, \u00a0salvation, \u00a0sin (introducing the theme of confession and inviting them to it), \u00a0the dangers of delaying one\u2019s conversion, \u00a0the virtue of penance, \u00a0the Prodigal Son, \u00a0the Passion, \u00a0forgiving one\u2019s enemies, \u00a0restitution, \u00a0blasphemy, \u00a0adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, \u00a0the divine nature of the Christian religion, \u00a0and many others.<\/p>\n<p>Conversion, however, had to be built on the instruction they received:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5><strong>I recommend you to aim very much at instructing. Be not satisfied with devoting the morning to this great duty of the mission, but always use a quick quarter of an hour in the evening before the main instruction to summarize what had been said in the morning to a smaller audience. This quarter of an hour instruction is to be given in the form of a reflection or catechism, without any oratorical gesture.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>Letter to Hippolyte Court\u00e8s, 19 January 1839, O.W.
