Again and again I was struck by their missionary generosity and zeal. \u201cComplementary responsibilities\u201d &#8211; together with the vowed Oblate brothers and priests &#8211; were abundantly clear as they shared their experience\u2019s as associates in the charism of St Eugene.<\/p>\n<p>From the moment that Eugene was inspired to found the Oblates, he turned to many people to appeal for their essential support to help him convert his dream into reality. This was \u201ccomplementary responsibilities in evangelizing\u201d put into practice. For 200 years the same generosity has been manifested in all our oblate missions. Without everyone assuming their \u201ccomplementary responsibilities,\u201d effective evangelization would not have been possible.<\/p>\n<p>Let us pause to identify some of those whose \u201ccomplementary responsibilities\u201d have been responsible for our own ongoing evangelization. Let us give thanks \u2013 and, as we pray for them, let us ask for the grace to be able to follow their missionary example through the quality of our lives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lay.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3080 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lay-300x286.jpg\" alt=\"lay\" width=\"300\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lay-300x286.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lay.jpg 497w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommunity is and must be inclusive. The great enemy of community is exclusivity. Groups that exclude others because they are poor or doubters or divorced or sinners or of some different race or nationality are not communities; they are cliques&#8211;actually defensive bastions against community.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 M.
