{"id":3076,"date":"2016-04-05T05:00:02","date_gmt":"2016-04-05T03:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=3076"},"modified":"2016-04-03T13:38:50","modified_gmt":"2016-04-03T11:38:50","slug":"our-founding-vision-today-expressed-in-our-rule-of-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=3076","title":{"rendered":"OUR FOUNDING VISION TODAY: EXPRESSED IN OUR RULE OF LIFE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During this bicentenary year we continue to reflect on its\u00a0meaning for us. \u00a0It has to be a meaning that is focused on how the present and the future build on the past.\u00a0In the coming weeks I would like to explore how we express Eugene\u2019s founding vision today in our Rule of Life. The \u201cConstitutions and Rules\u201d (CC&amp;RR), to give them their formal title, are the way in which the vision and spirituality of St Eugene, as lived out and developed over 200 years, aims to respond to the needs of today\u2019s world.<\/p>\n<p>What Eugene wrote in 1818 still applies today:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>But it is not enough for them simply to be convinced of the sublime nature of the ministry to which they have been called. The example of the saints and reason itself make it amply clear that the success of such a holy undertaking as well as the maintenance of discipline in any society make certain rules of life absolutely necessary for unity of thought and action among the members. Such unity is a body&#8217;s strength, keeping up its fervour and insuring that it lasts.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Preface<\/p>\n<p>Yes, they are written primarily for the Missionary Oblates as our Rule of Life. No, they are not exclusively for us. They become a guide for all who follow Eugene\u2019s charism to be able to enter into the spirituality that he offers us. I will reflect with you on the first ten Constitutions because they contain a summary of Eugene\u2019s charism and spirituality for today. From this source, each member of the Mazenodian Family can draw nourishment, in accordance with his or her connection with Eugene.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lougen-anniversary-homily-e1453841496730.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3077\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3077 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lougen-anniversary-homily-e1453841496730-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"lougen-anniversary-homily-e1453841496730\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lougen-anniversary-homily-e1453841496730-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lougen-anniversary-homily-e1453841496730.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u201c<em>Let us receive these Constitutions and Rules anew, with fresh enthusiasm, so that our Congregation will be united, strong and zealous in the mission to preach the Gospel to the poor and most abandoned\u2026.. I ask Mary Immaculate\u2019s intercession upon the entire Congregation, that by living these Constitutions and Rules, we may grow in holiness of life and missionary zeal as Saint Eugene desired<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fr.
