It refers to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Edm-mission.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3012\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3012 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Edm-mission-300x284.jpg\" alt=\"Edm mission\" width=\"300\" height=\"284\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Edm-mission-300x284.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Edm-mission.jpg 474w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>the Missionary Oblate <strong>Brothers and priests,<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>the <strong>Sisters,<\/strong> Misioneras Oblatas , in Paraguay and Spain,<\/li>\n<li>the <strong>Honorary Oblates<\/strong>, acknowledged for their dedicated service to the Oblates<\/li>\n<li>those who make a public commitment to make the spirituality of Eugene their own and live it as <strong>Associates,<\/strong> with various names and descriptions<\/li>\n<li>the members of <strong>Institutes of Consecrated Life<\/strong> whose founding inspiration was connected with Eugene&#8217;s charism<\/li>\n<li>those who <strong>support<\/strong> the Missionaries through their friendship, prayers, donations and service but do not live by a specific Mazenodian spirituality<\/li>\n<li>all those who <strong>contribute<\/strong> in any way to the Oblate mission, through employment or as beneficiaries and collaborators of the Mazenodian mission in our works or parishes,<\/li>\n<li>all <strong>whose lives are touched<\/strong> in some way by Eugene, like you, the reader of this reflection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cMazenodian Family\u201d refers to anyone who drinks from the spring of Eugene\u2019s charism and spirituality and, as a result, is drawn closer to Jesus the Savior and to the service of those in need. I find it more encompassing than the expression \u201cassociate\u201d because it expresses the freedom of each category of person\u2019s involvement and commitment. <strong>It thus leaves the name &#8220;Associate&#8221; to denote those who have made a public commitment to live their lives according to the charism\u00a0of St. Eugene, and have made his spirituality their own.\u00a0<\/strong>Thus we can say that all members of the Mazenodian Family are NOT committed Associates, but that all Associates ARE members of\u00a0the Mazenodian Family.<\/p>\n<p>The unity that the \u201cMazenodian Family\u201d denotes is a continuation of Eugene\u2019s ideal of one united family:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5><strong>Charity for our neighbour is again an essential part of our spirit. We practice it first amongst us by loving each other fraternally, by considering our Society only as the most united family which exists on the earth, by rejoicing over the virtues, the talents and other qualities that each one possesses just as much as if we possessed them ourselves, in bearing with mildness the little faults that some have not yet overcome, covering them over with the mantle of the most sincere charity\u2026<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>Letter to Hippolyte Guibert, 29 July 1830, EO VII n.350<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lay.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3080\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3080\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lay-300x286.jpg\" alt=\"lay\" width=\"242\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lay-300x286.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/lay.jpg 497w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 242px) 100vw, 242px\" \/><\/a>&#8220;The charism of Saint Eugene de Mazenod is a gift of the Spirit to the Church, and it radiates throughout the world. Lay people recognize that they are called to share in the charism according to their state of life, and to live it in ways that vary according to milieu and cultures.
