{"id":2950,"date":"2015-12-09T05:00:30","date_gmt":"2015-12-09T03:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=2950"},"modified":"2015-12-04T16:40:50","modified_gmt":"2015-12-04T14:40:50","slug":"the-first-foundational-level-of-our-mazenodian-spirituality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=2950","title":{"rendered":"THE FIRST FOUNDATIONAL LEVEL OF OUR MAZENODIAN SPIRITUALITY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why did Eugene become a priest?<\/p>\n<p>He replies over and over again with the same reply:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pure love of the glory of God, the most ardent desire for the salvation of one\u2019s neighbor, the needs of the abandoned Church, there you have the one and only reason for my entry into the clerical state.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>Letter to his mother, 14 October 1811, EO XIV n 93<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This three-fold ideal formed the basis of his priestly spirituality:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>My desire is to win the glory of God and the salvation of the souls he ransomed with his blood, by every means in my power, should it cost me my life\u2026<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>Retreat notes, July-August 1816, EO XV n 139<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It was the threefold focus that became the focus of the missionaries to join him in 1816:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>They must wholly renounce themselves, striving solely for the glory of God, the good of the Church, and the growth and salvation of souls.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>Preface<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Following our \u201cmap\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=2823\">https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=2823<\/a>), it is here we find the first level of our Mazenodian spirituality.
