{"id":1419,"date":"2012-05-01T05:00:23","date_gmt":"2012-05-01T03:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=1419"},"modified":"2012-04-20T14:51:54","modified_gmt":"2012-04-20T12:51:54","slug":"focused-from-two-directions-being-and-doing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=1419","title":{"rendered":"FOCUSED FROM TWO DIRECTIONS: BEING AND DOING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In insisting that his Missionaries focus always on the \u201cstill point\u201d of Jesus Christ, Eugene wanted to help each Missionary to develop an \u201cinner vision\u201d that would be a source of meaning and of transformation for himself and for others. Richard Rohr sums this up for me when he writes:<\/p>\n<p><em>What many desire \u2013 and some don\u2019t even have the language to express it \u2013 is an inner vision that tells them where they fit in the world and what they are here to do, something that is often different from what they do to pay the bills.\u201d <\/em>On the Threshold of Transformation\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reading Eugene\u2019s Rule in this light, we can see him using a two-pronged approach aiming at an inner vision with an equilibrium of being and doing. Through his Rule he is inviting them to developing a series of \u201c<strong>BE-attitudes<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Firstly:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>In imitation of these great models,<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>one portion of their life will be given over<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>to prayer, interior recollection and contemplation<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>in the privacy of God\u2019s house,<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>wherein they will dwell together in common.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>1818 Rule, Part Two, Chapter One. Regarding other principal observances<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the prolonged silent prayer we make each day, we let ourselves be moulded by the Lord and find in him the inspiration of our conduct<\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>CC&amp;RR, Constitution 33<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This spirit of interior recollection was not meant to be a time of detached monastic contemplation, as our Rule of Life shows:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is as missionaries that we worship, in the various ways the Spirit suggests to us. We come before him bearing with us the daily pressures of our anxiety for those to whom he sends us (cf. 2 Cor 11:28).<\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">CC&amp;RR, Constitution 32<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence.
