{"id":1344,"date":"2012-03-14T05:00:39","date_gmt":"2012-03-14T03:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=1344"},"modified":"2012-03-12T14:22:49","modified_gmt":"2012-03-12T12:22:49","slug":"nota-bene-example-is-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eugenedemazenod.net\/?p=1344","title":{"rendered":"NOTA BENE: EXAMPLE IS LEADERSHIP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0The remedy to the tragic situation of the Church \u2013 and specifically to the harm done by the \u201claziness, indifference and corruption among the priests\u201d &#8211;\u00a0 proposed by Eugene is that of the good example of the priests. \u201cExample is leadership,\u201d said Albert Schweitzer \u2013 and it was difficult to find anyone more convinced of this than Eugene himself.<\/p>\n<p>We recognize the familiar foundational themes that he constantly came back to: in the footsteps of the apostles, \u201cbe\u201d in order to \u201cdo\u201d, \u201call for God\u201d etc.:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The achieving of this end will require the forming of apostles, who, after having become convinced of the necessity of their own reform: &#8220;<em>take care about what you do,&#8221;<\/em> should work with all their strength to convert others:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00a0&#8220;<em>Take great care about what you do and what you teach and thus you will save both yourself and those who listen to you&#8221;<\/em> (I Timothy 4:16).<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>And as we have seen that the real source of the evil is the indifference, the avarice and corruption of the priests, once these abuses will have been reformed, the others will cease as well.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>See to it that you have zealous, altruistic and solidly virtuous priests and soon you will bring back to the fold the people who have wandered away from their duties.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>1818 Rule, Part One, Chapter One. In 1826 this text was modified into what today we know as the \u201c<em>Preface<\/em>\u201d addressed to all the members of the Mazenodian family.
