EASTER: TO RECOGNIZE AND ANNOUNCE THE POWER OF HIS RESURRECTION

After journeying with him through the sad event of his Passion, after weeping over the torments that our sins made him endure, how consoling it is to see him rise triumphant over death and hell, and what gratitude must fill our hearts at the thought that this good Master has really willed to make us sharers in his resurrection, destroying the sin that is in us and giving us a new life.

Last night I had the joy of watching the lights go up in the church as we sang the Gloria, seeing the cross bathed in white and light and surrounded at the base by flowers. And I thought to myself that “You continue to rise – again and again, it is never over…”. And at the Gospel my heart sang with the others, for in the pandemic we cannot sing aloud; but our hearts will not be silenced and the heart itself sings and rejoices with all of creation.

Last night we had the privilege of being present with those who were baptized and received for the first time the sacrament of Confirmation and then the Eucharist. We as a parish took part in announcing “the liberating presence of Jesus Christ and the new world born in his resurrection”. What a gift to have been their Eucharistic Minister and see the light of joy in their eyes as they approached to receive the Eucharist for the first time.

This morning I awoke and found myself singing He is Risen (by Eugene Englert) and that continues to play as a backdrop to this morning reflection. Later I will prepare to go again to Church, to welcome those who have registered to join us in our Easter morning liturgy and celebration. And together our hearts will rise in triumph as they sing “Christ is Risen… trampling on death by death and to those in the tomb lavishing life.”

For now, I share “He is Risen” which has silently been playing as a backdrop to my morning reflection. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pynS8df9B1A)

A Blessed and Joyous Easter to you.

From me extra special wishes for a joyous Easter go to those who introduced me to the charism of this special family – at the top of my list, Fr Jack and Fr Roy, you too, Eleanor, and never forgetting you, Fr Frank!
Christ is risen. Truly, He is risen!
